Veda standing in front of Brandenburg Gate

Germany · Field notes

BERLINA city that learned to come back together.

Cobbles, a chariot on top, a cathedral roof, and four days of U-Bahn, autumn trees, and a gate that used to be the end of the map.

The gate is a postcard.
The city is the repair.

Berlin captured me in the seam: a square that used to stop you, a tower the East left standing, trees doing the work in fall. The monuments are loud. The U-Bahn is how you actually move. Four days is a first draft of a city that was two.

Where I actually walked.

Every tagged stop is on the map. All pins shows them together — tap a name to zoom in. Each popup opens the same place in Google Maps.

Intel

The useful layer — a dome you register for, Museum Island tickets, and BVG without buying a monthly you will not finish.

Brandenburg Gate

Cobbles, a chariot on top, a square that used to be a dead end. Go twice — once in daylight, once when the lights make it look less like a textbook.

Cathedral

The dome on Museum Island. Climb if your legs still work. The city from the roof is the map the U-Bahn hid.

Fernsehturm

The TV tower that still runs the skyline. A ticket if you want the revolving view. From the ground it is already the postcard.

Reichstag

The dome is free. The catch is you register. Without a slot you are photographing a fence.

Mitte in fall

Trees, a river, a city that learned how to come back together. The monuments are loud. The parks are the quiet I kept.

Street art

Not a museum with a ticket. Walls that still argue. Walk. Some of it will be gone next year.

What stayed on the roll.

Five places I actually stood in. Not a complete Berlin — just the frames I kept.

The cathedral, from above

The dome first, then the church that owns the island. I climbed until the city made sense. Rooftops, the Spree, a map the U-Bahn had been hiding.

The needle

Fernsehturm does not ask permission. Concrete, a sphere, a city that kept the East’s skyline on purpose. From the ground it is already enough.

The trees doing the work

Berlin in fall is the version I got. Gold, a path, a city that looks repaired. The monuments can wait an hour.

The gate

Cobbles, a chariot, a square that used to stop you. I stood under it like everyone else. The photo still looks like a dare the city already won.

Walls that still argue

Paint on concrete, a city that lets the walls talk. Not a gallery with a gift shop. Walk. Some of it will be gone when you come back.

Still on the list.

Four days is a first draft. These are the rooms I didn’t get into — the ones that are not optional if you go back.

Wall memorial

The stretch that is still a wound, not a mural. Watchtower, documentation, a quiet that is not a postcard. I stayed on the monument circuit.

Holocaust memorial

Stelae, a slope, an underground room if you go in. Free. Not a selfie set. I owe it a morning.

East Side Gallery

The wall as a painting. Touristy, still the longest remaining stretch. I saw other walls and called it done.

Walk up

Kreuzberg at night

The evening that is not Mitte. Food, a bar, a neighborhood that does not close when the gate lights do. I slept too early.

Night

If you have a fifth day.

Potsdam is the easy leave. Sachsenhausen is not a sightseeing day. Leipzig if Mitte already filled the roll.

Potsdam

Palaces, a park, an S-Bahn. The easier leave. Sanssouci if you still have patience for gold after Vienna’s version.

Day · S-Bahn Palaces ↗

Sachsenhausen

A camp, north of the city. Heavy on purpose. Not a casual afternoon. Go only if you mean it, and leave the rest of the day empty.

Heavy day

Leipzig

Another hour on the train. A city that is not Berlin’s sequel. Go if four days already filled Mitte.
