Cold air, a tower that looks like a dare, and five days of café tables, museum queues, and getting lost on purpose.
Paris captured me in the small hours: croissant steam, a street musician, light on Haussmann stone. The monuments are loud. The city is quieter than the posters. Walking the Seine at dusk, getting lost in the Louvre, climbing to Sacré-Cœur — that’s what stayed, not the slogan.
Every tagged stop is on the map. All pins shows them together — tap a name to zoom in. Each popup opens the same place in Google Maps.
The useful layer — tickets to book, a croissant that actually flakes, and how not to melt in August.
Book the summit online. Sunset on the Trocadéro steps, then stay for the sparkle. The hourly light show is not a myth.
Timed entry, weeks ahead in peak season. Start with what you actually want. The Mona Lisa is a crowd with a painting attached.
The cathedral is open again. Timed reservation, often free. Walk Île de la Cité. Sainte-Chapelle is next door if you still have eyes for glass.
Climb for the Champs-Élysées from above. Use the underground passage. The roundabout is not a crosswalk.
Funicular if your legs have already filed a complaint. Place du Tertre early, or you’ll be in someone else’s portrait.
Walk it. A cruise is optional. Evening light does more work than a dinner boat.

Walk upFrom a boulangerie, still warm. If it tastes like packaged butter, keep walking.

€8–15Duck cooked in its own fat, potatoes that crack. Not a light lunch. Don’t try to make it one.
€18–28A fromagerie, not a gift shop. Camembert, Comté, something the person behind the counter actually likes.
€15–25Ladurée if you want the box. Pierre Hermé if you want the flavor. Either way, they don’t travel as well as you hope.
€2–4Sit. Café crème in the morning. Don’t order a to-go cup like you’re late for a train you already missed.
€3–62–3 months ahead for April–June and September. 4–6 weeks for winter. Fashion Week and Christmas: book the second you know you’re going.
Saint-Germain — Left Bank, walkable, you pay for it. Le Marais — evenings, food, actual streets. Montmartre — the hill, the view, the stairs. Near the tower — the postcard, and the prices that come with it.
Skip the hotels glued to the tower. A small hotel on a residential street. Sunday–Thursday is kinder. Petit déjeuner included is not a small line item.
15–22°C, gardens, café weather. Peak prices. Still the easiest Paris to love.
20–26°C. Long days, Paris Plages, and a city half on vacation. Crowded. Go if you must; hide at noon.
12–20°C, gold trees, fewer people after the rentrée. One of the two best windows.
3–8°C, short days, Christmas lights, café interiors. Pack a coat. Cozy, if you like gray.
Central Paris is a pedestrian argument you will lose, happily. Cobbles. Shoes, water, done.
FreeIt covers the city. Roughly 5:30am–1:15am (later on weekends). Ticket t+ or tap a Navigo Easy / contactless card. Machines in every station, tabacs, or the Île-de-France Mobilités app.

The pyramid, then a hallway that becomes another century. I did not finish it. Nobody does. I kept the rooms that wouldn’t leave.
Five days is a first draft. These are the rooms I didn’t get into — the ones I’d book first if I went back tomorrow.
Impressionists in a train station. The one everyone says to do after the Louvre. I didn’t, and the city noticed.
