A strip that pretends to be every city at once, shrimp cocktail downtown, and a day trip to concrete that actually holds water.
Vegas captured me in the copy-paste: canals under a painted sky, a half-scale Eiffel, a kitchen lit like a TV set. The Strip is loud on purpose. Hoover Dam is the quiet that proves someone meant the other kind of monument. Three or four days is enough if you walk at night and leave one morning for the dam.
Every tagged stop is on the map. All pins shows them together — tap a name to zoom in. Each popup opens the same place in Google Maps. Hoover sits off the Strip; treat it as a drive day.
The useful layer — show tickets, buffet lines, and how far the next casino actually is when the map lies.
Four miles of mega-resorts. Each hotel is the attraction. Free fountain show at Bellagio. Best after dark when the neon does the work.
Gondolas, a painted sky, canals that should not exist in a desert. Walk the replica streets. The casino is the lobby you never leave.
Half-scale tower on the Strip. Fake Paris with a real view of the lights. Climb if you want the photo that admits the joke.

O at Bellagio, KA at MGM, and a dozen others. Book weeks ahead for price and seat. Same-day apps exist; they are a gamble.

Walk upVegas still does this better than the joke. Bacchanal if you want the legend. Wicked Spoon for variety. Go hungry. Leave with a plan for a nap.
$30–80Golden Gate downtown — the old 99¢ habit that became a pilgrimage. Not gourmet. Correct at midnight after Fremont.
$1–3Hell's Kitchen, Spago, Giada. Book ahead. Dress code is real at the expensive ones. The neon outside is the appetizer.
$50–150Secret Pizza at Cosmopolitan. In-N-Out when the Strip starts to tilt. Most kitchens never close. That is the point.
$5–15Every major casino has a temple to ribeye. Celebrate a win or bury a loss. Same plate either way.
$80–200Downtown still runs the classic eggs-and-bacon bait. Not Instagram. Correct before a day of walking.
$1–5Convention weeks and NYE erase deals. Summer heat is miserable and cheap. Fall is the sweet spot — warm nights, fewer stampedes.
Center Strip — Venetian, Bellagio, Paris walking distance. South Strip — often cheaper, more monorail. Downtown / Fremont — older Vegas, shorter walk to shrimp cocktail, longer ride to the mega-resorts.
Resort fees are not optional in the fine print. Off-Strip or downtown cuts the fee theater. Parking is no longer free at most casinos — budget $10–20/day if you rent.
18–30°C, pools opening, Red Rock hiking that does not melt you. March Madness and conventions spike rates — check the calendar.
35–45°C. Brutal. Also the cheapest rooms. Hide indoors at noon, pool or casino AC, neon after dark. Summer is a deal with the devil and the devil has good AC.
22–35°C. Best overall. Heat loosens, pools still work in September, outdoor trips make sense. My preferred window.
8–18°C, mild days, cold nights. NYE is a spectacle and a price spike. CES in January fills every room. Otherwise: value season.
Looks close. Lies. Four miles end to end — 1.5–2 hours if you do not stop, and you will stop. Shoes. Pedestrian bridges over the arteries.
FreeStrip to Fremont roughly $15–25. Surge after shows. Often cheaper than taxi. The adult move when your feet quit.
$15–25Double-decker along the Strip and downtown, 24/7. About $8 for 2 hours, $20 for 24. Crowded at night. RTC app or exact change.
Day passEast side only — SLS to MGM. Fast behind the hotels. Does not save you on the west side. Day pass if you stack rides.
$5–15For Hoover Dam and Red Rock. Not for the Strip itself — parking fees add up. Compare airport vs off-Strip counters.

Gondolas under a painted ceiling. A Nike that never saw the Louvre. The Venetian is the joke told so well you stop correcting it. I walked the fake canals until the desert felt optional.

Hoover Dam is the leave that fixes the neon hangover. Engineering instead of illusion. A short drive, a long drop, a reminder the desert can be serious.
Three or four days is a first draft. These are the rooms I skipped — including Fremont, which I owe a proper night.
Old Vegas, LED canopy, cheaper tables, street performers. More honest than the Strip. I stayed mid-Strip and called it done. Wrong.
NightO or KA. Booked too late, priced out, or tired. The stage is half the reason people fly here.
Book aheadTwenty minutes from the Strip. Scenic loop, trails, actual geology. A morning before the AC casinos reclaim you.
MorningI walked under it and kept moving. Sunset from the wheel is the postcard I did not buy.
Timed ticketHoover is the easy leave. Grand Canyon is the longer story. Red Rock if you only have a morning.
About 45 minutes. Visitor center, overlook, a tour if you book. Rental car or a day van. Do not assume Uber will wait for you.
Half day · drive Official site ↗West Rim closest (~2.5 hrs). South Rim farther and bigger. Helicopter money if that is the trip. Bus tours leave from the Strip daily.
Full dayScenic drive, short hikes, desert that is not a casino carpet. Go early. Back for lunch and neon.
